What Does the Bible say about Love, Sex, Lust, Temptation
and Purity?
Love? It’s in the Bible, I Corinthians 13:4-7,
TLB. “Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful
or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own
way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly
even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice,
but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone you will be loyal
to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always
expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him.”
Sex is a gift God gives to married people
for their mutual enjoyment. It’s in the Bible, Proverbs 5:18-19, TLB. “Let
your manhood be a blessing; rejoice in the wife of your youth. Let her
charms and tender embrace satisfy you. Let her love alone fill you with
delight.”
Romance and sexual relations are highly recommended
within the commitment of marriage. It’s in the Bible, The Song of Solomon
1:2,12-13; 2:4-6,16, TLB. “Kiss me again and again, for your love is sweeter
than wine. . . The king lies on his bed, enchanted by the fragrance of
my perfume. My beloved one is a sachet of myrrh lying between my breasts.
. . He brings me to the banquet hall and everyone can see how much he loves
me. Oh, feed me with your love. . . for I am utterly lovesick. His left
hand is under my head and with his right hand he embraces me. . . My beloved
is mine and I am his.”
Adultery? The seventh commandment forbids
adultery. It’s in the Bible, Exodus 20:14, “You shall not commit adultery.”
Lust itself is a sinful behavior and is often used as an excuse for
further sin. It’s in the Bible, Matthew 5:28, TLB. Christ professed, “But
I say: Anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already
committed adultery with her
in his heart.”
Purity …Matthew 5:8, NIV. “Happy are those
whose hearts are pure, for they shall see God.”
CHOOSE FRIENDS WITH PURE HEARTS. It’s in the Bible,
II Timothy 2:22, TLB. “Run from anything that gives you the evil thoughts
that young men often have, but stay close to anything that makes you want
to do right. Have faith and love, and enjoy the companionship of those
who love the Lord and have pure hearts.”
